Has anyone done a debt management program? If so, would you recommend it?

I’m meditative of incoming the DMP as we hit lots of unsafe debt due to unforseeable home repairs!!! Consumer Credit Counseling seems to be creditable though I’m disturbed about the disastrous attack upon my credit. Can any one suggest advice???
